Frequently Asked Questions

How does the free first class work?

Your first class is free, and we'll lend you a uniform for it. If you like it, you'll start a 10-day trial with a uniform/equipment deposit at the current gear price (this covers Kendo too). During your intro, you'll pick a membership plan, and it starts automatically after the 10-day trial unless you email us to opt out.

What ages and programs do you offer?

Little Dragons (ages 7 and under), Family Taekwondo (ages 8+), Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (ages 7–12), Fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (ages 13+), Family Kendo (ages 10+), and Women's Self-Defense (ages 13+).

Where are you located?

9899 Main St, Suite 150, Damascus, MD 20872.

What should I wear?

Comfortable athletic clothes (t-shirt and shorts or sweatpants) for your first class. We'll lend you a uniform for that class. Please remove jewelry. There's a water fountain at the school. Kids also need a mouth guard from their first class; if you don't have one, we sell them at the front desk.

How do I book?

Use the booking widget on our Home page to pick a class time and reserve your free first class.

I'm already a member - where do I log in?

Log in anytime at https://hanmima.gymdesk.com/login (or use the Login link in our menu) to manage your account and watch your class's pre-recorded lessons. Each day's class topic is listed on our Schedule as "Skills". See our For Members page for more.

Can my child watch lessons at home?

Yes. We post the topic for every class, and every lesson is pre-recorded, so members can watch it in our app or member site before class or when reviewing for a test. Each video lesson runs 30 to 45 minutes, with no wasted time.

Does my child need a mouth guard?

Yes. A mouth guard is required for all sparring, in every program and at every age, and kids need one from their very first class. We sell them at the school, so if you don't have one, we'll get you one at the front desk.

When do I need to buy sparring gear?

Taekwondo students need their own sparring gear before moving up to Level 2. Adults in Jiu-Jitsu get a gear package with gloves, a mouth guard and everything else they need when they move into Advanced. Kendo students buy their uniform and armor in steps (see the Family Kendo page). You can buy everything from us; see the Shop or our For Members page.
